Designated Drivers, Free Cab Rides Urged on New Year's Eve

Posted: Updated:
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

Christmas is now behind us and people are looking forward to New Years, and on Thursday, police sent out a warning for any who may drink and drive.

"We want everybody to think before they drink. Have a designated driver before you go out and celebrate," said Senior Officer Kirk Stowers of the Corpus Christi Police Department. "If you are going to drink anything, it's best practice to have someone else drive."

Extra officers will be out in force this New Years Eve, conducting traffic stops and making sure folks are abiding by the law. The City Detention Center will also have a phlebotomist on duty to make blood draws go faster.

If you do choose to drink, you have a safe alternative for getting home. Andrews Distributing, Dos Equis Beer, Green-N-Go Cabs, Yellow Cabs and the Brunkenhoefer Law Firm have all teamed up to provide free cab rides home. The rides will be available this weekend and on New Year's Eve between 9 p.m.-3 a.m. Just call 361-299-9999.
