Corpus Christi Police Prepare for Drunk Drivers this NYE

Posted: Updated:
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

Drink, drive and go to jail. The Corpus Christi Police Department is prepared to keep drunk drivers off the roads this New Years Eve.

The CCPD plans to do so by having extra police units working through out the night, which is funded through a grant from the state.

It's also no refusal on New Years Eve, but what some people might not know is that it's no refusal all year long. What no refusal means is that a medical technician will be on standby to perform blood draws on suspected drunken drivers.

Senior Officer Kirk Stowers says they won't be having DWI checkpoints, because those are not in policy with the Corpus Christi Police Department.

He urges people to be safe while celebrating the New Year and if they drink to arrange to have a sober driver.
