Police: Source of "Boom" Was Improvised Explosive Device; ATF Investigating

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

Corpus Christi Police say they have identified the source of the loud explosion in the area of Yorktown and Rodd Field on Sunday night. Police say they found consumer based material that was used to make an improvised explosive device.

The CCPD Bomb Squad was called in to investigate and collect data and evidence from the scene. The initial report came in to the police dispatch around 6:42PM Sunday evening of an explosion in the area of the 7600 block of Fred's Folly.

CCPD is also asking for assistance from the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms. If you have any information about this case, you're asked to call the Police Department at 886-2840.
