Flu Outbreak Hits Coastal Bend Hard

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

The City-County Health Department on Horne road is currently running a flu vaccine clinic. That's because the number of flu cases throughout Texas and our area has increase significantly.

For adults without insurance, the flu shot is $30. For kids, it's $10. If you are covered by Medicare or Medicaid, there is no additional charge for the flu shot.

"If you start having signs symptoms/fever congestion, body aches, anything of the sort to think you are getting sick, stay home. Don't go to work, don't send the kids to work, to share germs. That's how virus spread and colds, because people are in close contact with each other," says Tammy Walker-Smith, Senior Nurse Practitioner at the Health Department.

The Health Department has the regular flu shot, plus a high-dose vaccine. That high-dose vaccine is made especially for those over the age of 65, who may already have respiratory issues, or are at greater risk of the flu.

The flu clinic at the Horne Road office runs Monday-Friday. If you live in Robstown, you can also get a flu shot at the Robstown clinic, but only every other Monday.
