Missing Boaters Found Early Tuesday Morning

Posted: Updated:

Two Houston boaters are safely on their way home after they went missing for four days at sea. They were found a mile south of the Port Aransas jetties early Tuesday morning.

Patrick Holden, 27 and his cousin Joe Squibb, 26, left Port Aransas Saturday evening in attempt to sail their 25-foot boat to Galveston.

Family members notified the Coast Guard when the two did not arrive at the expected time Sunday night. The Coast Guard says the trip mishap was caused by bad weather and motor trouble.

"This time of year it's very treacherous and there are quite a bit of hazards in the gulf. So conducting a voyage like this perhaps with limited equipment, is a very difficult voyage to undertake," says US Coast Guard Commander Daniel Deptula.

"Just very happy that the cases ended on a happy note and that everyone is safe and they will be able to enjoy the new year together with their family members," says Commander Deptula.

The Coast Guard was able to pin point their location when the sailors drifted into cell service near Port Aransas and were able to call their family to let them know where they were.
