Fallen U.S. Marine from Sinton Honored by Local VFW Post

SINTON (Kiii News) -

A ceremony was held at Sinton's City Hall Thursday morning to honor a fallen U.S. Marine, Lance Cpl. Mark Goyet, who was killed in Afghanistan on June 28, 2011.

Goyet's father, Cmdr. Raymond Goyet, flew in from Virginia to accept the resolution honoring his son.

Mark Goyet was born April 29, 1989 in Hampton, Va., and eventually came to Texas, where he graduated from Sinton High School in 2007. He joined the U.S. Marine Corp a year later, on Feb. 26, 2008, at the age of 18.

Goyet served his first combat tour in Iraq. He then volunteered to go to Afghanistan. He was a awarded numerous medals, including the Purple Heart. He died serving this country at the age of 22.
