CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

It's only been eight days into the new year and the Corpus Christi Police Department is already investigating the city's first bank robbery of 2014.

It happened at around 10 a.m. Wednesday at Kleberg Bank inside of the HEB on South Alameda.

It was a bold and brazen robbery. Surveillance video shows the suspect walk up to the counter and push another customer out of the way before scooping up as much cash as he could. He makes demands to the bank teller before running out of the bank.

Other customers in the bank saw what was happening and quickly backed off, which is exactly what police say you should do in a situation like that. They say to become a good eyewitness to the crime in order to relay the details to police.

you saw those customers back off and that's exactly what police say you should do, become a good eye witness to the crime in order to relay the details to police.

"A Hispanic male robbed the bank and then fled into the surrounding neighborhood," CCPD Lt. Edward Longoria said.

After taking an unknown amount of cash, police said the suspect rode off on a bicycle into a neighborhood behind the store.

"The officers on foot patrol actually located the bike and some of the items that were used in the robbery," Lt. Longoria said. "We are still investigating at this point."

Police described the suspect as standing about five-foot six and weighing around 200 pounds. He was wearing winter gear.

If you have any information about the robbery, please call Crime Stoppers at 361-888-8477.
