Construction Yet to Begin on New Robstown Outlet Mall

Posted: Updated:
ROBSTOWN (Kiii News) -

The Outlets at Corpus Christi Bay were set to be open by this summer, but since the groundbreaking last July, no other dirt has been turned.

"We've not been able to get much information from them over the last few weeks," Nueces County Judge Loyd Neal said.

So consequently, there is much concern about the $180 million project. The first phase is supposed to have 70 retail stores. The second phase, which is already said to be half leased, will begin soon after construction of the first phase gets underway. However, Judge Neal said that, while the company behind the project has hired a local engineering firm, the county has been kept out of the loop.

"I'm still very positive on this," Neal said. "I think we're going to hear very soon that this thing is a go, and they're going to start constructing that mall, and then we'll know where we are."

When and if it does happen, the project will mean at least 200 construction jobs, and as many as 600 people are expected to be working at the retail outlets.
