Be Safe from Diabetes: The DASH Eating Plan

Posted: Updated:
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

The popular DASH eating plan was ranked number one for the fourth year in a row, followed by the Therapeutic Lifestyle Changes Diet.

Tying for the third place spot were the Mayo Clinic Diet, the Mediterranean Diet and Weight Watchers.

The rankings are based on safety, effective weight loss, heart health and diabetes prevention.

So what is the DASH eating plan?

According to dieticians, DASH stands for Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension. The diet could lower your blood pressure and help control cholesterol levels, and doctors say that controlling blood pressure is crucial in battling diabetes.

The DASH eating plan is great because it really focuses on fruits and vegetables being the foundation, along with whole grains and little amounts of meat. For more information on the DASH eating plan, click here.
