KINGSVILLE (Kiii News) -

The Kleberg County Sheriff's Office donated a van to the local Palmer Drug Abuse Program, known as PDAP, on Thursday.

PDAP helps people with substance abuse problems, and ironically, Kleberg County got possession of the van after seizing it in a recent drug bust.

"It was awarded to us to do as we wish," Kleberg County Sheriff Ed Mata said. "We were able to make something bad and turn it into good."

"The best part is, we keep kids in activities and retreats going on all year long," PDAP Executive Director Wade Fjeld said. "Many of them don't have a ride, so this gives us a greater ability in outlying areas."

They say that the van will be a great way to build fellowship, introducing people to each other on their way to and from the PDAP meetings.

PDAP is a free program for drug abusers of all ages.
