CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

This afternoon, District 3 Corpus Christi Councilwoman Priscilla Leal remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition after undergoing emergency surgery following a severe stroke.  According to Mayor Nelda Martinez, Leal remains in the Neurovascular Intensive Care Unit at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, after a neurosurgeon successfully removed a blood clot and surgically implanted a stent in her brain.

Mayor Martinez said, "Mrs. Leal is surrounded by her loving family.  I have been with the family the last two days and we are hopeful for a positive outcome.  Councilwoman Leal is a strong person and receiving excellent medical care.  I continue to ask the community to pray for her."

Leal was found on the floor in her home on Friday morning by her husband who then called 911. She was flown from Corpus Christi Medical Center-Doctors Regional to the Valley. Tonight, she is surrounded by her family which says they are grateful for all of the phone calls and prayers.

Leal is a four term Council member who worked for the city for about 20 years before running for office.
