Council Receives Hopeful Update on Priscilla Leal's Condition

Posted: Updated:
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

City Council members received a medical update on Councilwoman Priscilla Leal Tuesday. Leal suffered a severe stroke last week but appears to be doing better.

Leal remains in critical but stable condition at Valley Baptist Hospital in Harlingen, but Mayor Nelda Martinez said she was told by Leal's husband that Leal is able to use her arms and hands to put on rosary beads; and that, they say, is a good sign.

The mayor said they all expect her to be able to complete her term on the City Council.

"It's too premature, and she's one strong woman, and right now we are praying for her return," Martinez said. "And we expect her to be sitting right there very soon, coming back to serve and finish out her term for District 3 and this whole city."

Leal underwent surgery to remove a blood clot from her brain and a stent was also implanted to help relieve the pressure. There is no word on how long her recovery might take.
