Several Area Fire Crews Respond to Five-Acre Blaze in Robstown

Posted: Updated:
ROBSTOWN (Kiii News) -

A five-acre palm tree farm in Robstown went up in flames on Wednesday, and now investigators are trying to figure out how the fire started in the first place.

Department 13 Films used a drone to shoot aerial video capturing the aftermath of the intense fire, which broke out at 10 a.m. on Canal Street, near County Roads 44 and 69.

Fire crews from Robstown, Annaville, Bluntzer and Flour Bluff all responded to the call because a north wind was helping to push the flames, causing a real fear the fire could spread. Bulldozers and heavy equipment were also brought in to try and keep the blaze from coming into contact with gas lines.

"We have our major natural gas check valve in the corner of the property," Robstown Fire Chief Ricardo Gonzalez said. "We got a bulldozer to the area around it and cleaned it up to make sure it doesn't get to those valves."

It took crews some two hours to put the flames down. No one was hurt or injured in the fire.
