Robstown Outlets to Be Finished Later Than Expected

Posted: Updated:
ROBSTOWN (Kiii News) -

County officials had hoped to see the new outlet mall in Robstown finished before the 2014 holiday season, but now contractors estimate completion sometime in spring of next year.

The contractors in charge of building the new Outlets at Corpus Christi Bay visited Robstown earlier this week, according to Nueces County Judge Loyd Neal. He said they gave a new schedule outlining the project, and they plan to begin construction sometime after Easter.

In the meantime, they are working on logistical parts of the project such as engineering and drainage work that needs to be taken care of, as well as negotiating leases with participating dealers. While no specific reason was given for the delay, Judge Neal said the County is still positive that the $180 million project is going to be built.

Ground was broken on the property of the new outlet mall in July of last year. Neal said the first phase of construction is supposed to have 65 retail stores, and the second phase, which is said to be half leased, will begin soon after construction of the first phase is underway.

When construction does get underway, it is expected to create at least 200 construction jobs. Once complete, as many as 600 people are expected to be working at the retail outlets.
