Port Aransas Council to Consider Refinery Ban in City Limits

PORT ARANSAS (Kiii News) -

It looks like Port Aransas residents' efforts to prevent a refinery from being build on Harbor Island are moving forward.

The Port Aransas Planning and Zoning Board approved a refinery ban Thursday afternoon, which would prevent any sort of refinery from going up within the Port Aransas city limits. This follows an attempt by Martin Midstream to purchase land on Harbor Island for a proposed refinery.

Many residents in Port Aransas were upset by the idea of selling that property to be used for those purposes.

Now, the proposed refinery ban will move to the Port Aransas City Council. At their Thursday evening meeting, council members are expected to approve the rezoning in a first reading. The zoning would become permanent after a third reading by council.
