Police Detain Person of Interest in Attempted Abduction

ANNAVILLE (Kiii News) -

What was first a stolen bike investigation now has police taking a deeper look at a possible attempted abduction that took place in Annaville on Saturday.

According to the victim's father, police detained a person of interest just before 5 p.m. Monday and they have taken him in for questioning.

Kiii News Reporter Anayeli Ruiz went Live from Annaville with the latest on that investigation.

A 10-year old girl was riding her bike on the 11300 block of Blades Saturday evening, heading home from playing at a park just a few houses down. That's when a man approached her.

"From what she told me was that he asked her 'Why don't you come with me,'" said Carlos Franco, the victim's father. "Something to that effect."

The girl told officers that she got off her bike and ran to a nearby community center, yelling for help. The suspect then took off, and took the little girl's bike with him.

On Monday, detectives canvassed the area, trying to gather as much information about the incident as they could. Police wanted to send a message to parents.

"You need to know where your children are," said Lt. Patrick McMenamy of the Corpus Christi Police Department. "You need to have an eye on your children, because all it takes is a split second and everything changes."

The CCPD said parents need to make sure their kids know about stranger danger.
If they are approached by anyone they don't know, they need to run and yell for help.

The suspect was described as tall man with a deep voice and black hair. He wore a white shirt. If you have any information, please call Crime Stoppers at 361-888-8477.
