Fire Captain Honored for 45 Years of Service, Retirement Coming

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

For the past 45 years, Fire Captain S.A. Benavides has dedicated his life to serving the Corpus Christi Community. To honor his dedication to saving life's, Benavides received a special pin to mark his service.

"On behalf of a grateful city and a grateful fire department, I would present you with your 45-year pin. 45-years of service for the Corpus Christi Fire Department," said Corpus Christi Fire Chief Robert Rocha.

The ceremony took place Monday at Fire Station Number Seven on Staples near Brawner Parkway. Benavides told the group he hopes someone is able to achieve 46-years of service. This Sunday, Benavides plans to retire.

"I do have a lot of friends that have retired and that I have worked with and now it is my turn," said Captain Benavides. "So, I'll be in their ranks now. I'm happy, I'm happy."

Benavides plans to spend more time with his daughter who lives in Maryland. Congrats on a great run, Captain. Happy retirement.

    Two suspects hit an officer with their car and then almost hit another as they led police on a chase through the hillcrest neighborhood.
