Police Investigating Wal-Mart Bomb Threat as Attempted Robbery

Posted: Updated:
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

What started out as a simple bomb threat Wednesday night is now being looked at by the Corpus Christi Police Department as a case of attempted aggravated robbery.

According to police, it was around 6 p.m. Wednesday when a person called the Wal-Mart store in Calallen, on the 3800 block of Highway 77, and demanded cash card numbers from the store manager, threatening violence if the manager did not comply.

The manager immediately notified police and evacuated the store as a precaution.

"We received a call from Wal-Mart reference a bomb threat," CCPD Sgt. Dee Dee Dlabaja said. "They had someone calling in advising that they had put a bomb inside the Wal-Mart store."

Police quickly arrived at the scene and with the cooperation of store employees, they launched an investigation. Fortunately, no explosive device was found.

The store was closed from 6-7:45 p.m. until the threat subsided. Police are still trying to identify the person who called in that initial threat.

Another threat was called into the same store Thursday morning, and again, after searching the store for about an hour and a half, nothing was found and the store was reopened. Police are still trying to determine whether or not the two threats are related.
