CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

It's spelling bee time across the nation, and at Berlanga Elementary Thursday, a handful of kids leaped at the chance to become their school's next spelling star.

"Very exciting. They are great spellers, and we can see it now because it's going into the fourth round," Berlanga Elementary Principal Dianne Moore said.

Parents were just as nervous as the kids themselves, nearly 30 of which participated in Thursday's spelling bee. The winner is of the spelling bee was Angelina, with Joel Martinez as the runner up.

Angelina will go on to compete in the overall spelling bee on Feb. 22 at the Solomon P. Ortiz Center.

And by the way -- Kiii News Anchor Katia Uriarte was a judge at the spelling bee!
