KINGSVILLE (Kiii News) -

Students at the Rangel College of Pharmacy are organizing a 5K Walk and Run in memory of the late associate dean for student affairs. Dr. James Robertson was a cornerstone at the College of Pharmacy. Robertson died after complications from pneumonia in November of 2012. The Professional Student Pharmacists at the College of Pharmacy hope to bring awareness to this preventable condition through what they are calling the "Ties and Tennis Shoes Memorial 5K".

"He fought for us. He had it to where if we had financial troubles, he would come to us and have it to where he would seek out those opportunities and scholarships tailored for us," said student Kevin Ferrall. "He had it to where his passion definitely put forth in this school, and this was an opportunity for us as students to show our passion back towards him."

"The thing that I remember most about him was he was very set on helping us prepare professionally for our career," said student Olga Bacio-Saucedo. "One of the things that he implemented was the dress code. He wanted us to start acting like professionals so we can be treated as professionals."

Proceeds from the run and walk will benefit the Dr. James Robertson Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund. To register for the event, visit www.active.com
