Police Chief Recommends that City Renew Curfew Ordinance

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

With the recent rash of loud parties attended by teens, Police Chief Floyd Simpson took the opportunity to ask City Council to renew the City's underage curfew.

"It's been in the news about parties and things like that," Chief Simpson said. "We frankly scour Facebook and social media to find out what's going on, so to those who are listening, we're after you; but the ordinance is a good ordinance. It's a sound ordinance. It's been sound for a long time and it's working."

The ordinance, originally approved by the City in August of 1991, prohibits anyone under the age of 17 from being in public between the hours of 11 p.m.-6 a.m. By state law, the curfew must be reviewed by City Council every three years in case it needs to be amended.
