Famed Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson Speaking at TAMUCC

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

American astrophysicist, cosmologist and author Neil deGrasse Tyson is set to visit Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi in March.

Tyson is also the director of the Hayden Planetarium, which conducts research in astrophysics. He's recognized as a visionary speaker, and said his aim is to pique the interests and curiosity of the next generation.

3News spoke with Tyson by phone and he said that it is necessary to explore the expectations of where we should be in space by now, as well as how far technology has pushed the human race beyond our technological limits.

"Just imagine stories that our grandparents have told us about. They crowd in the living room and listen to the radio, and the radio is a piece of furniture," Tyson said. "I want to carry that radio on my hip. I want to carry that radio in my pocket. It's a non-thought, so the influence of this kind of thinking, that is widespread and deep in how we conduct our modern lives."

Tyson is expected to talk about this subject and many more at 8 p.m. March 27 as part of TAMUCC's Distinguished Speakers Series.
