CCISD Board Member to File for Leal's Seat

Posted: Updated:
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

A well-known CCISD board member is jumping into city politics. Lucy Rubio plans to file for Priscilla Leal's seat after she terms out. Rubio is hoping to appeal to residents in district three. She has been on the school board for 16-years. The 61-year-old candidate has been a chair on the Nueces County Democratic Party. District three is currently occupied by Priscilla Leal who is receiving treatment after suffering a stroke earlier this month.

"I spoke to the Leal family and they said, 'Lucy, you have our blessing to get started as soon as you want. So, I'm really excited because Priscilla and I were working on this together," said Lucy Rubio. "Unfortunately with her stroke, things got delayed, but now that she is home here having her therapy here, we decided to go ahead and get my campaign going."

Elections are in November. So far, no one else has publicly expressed an interest running for district three.
