KINGSVILLE (Javelinas Athletics) - On a day of reflection as the members of the 2013 Lone Star Conference Tournament Champions received their rings, the 2014 Texas A&M-Kingsville baseball team showed fans what they have to look forward to as the 4th-ranked Javelinas swept Houston-Victoria 6-2 and 6-0 at Nolan Ryan Field.

In the first game, the Javelinas wasted little time taking the lead thanks to Taylor Taska. The All-American launched the first pitch he saw over the fence left scoring Incarnate Word transfer Derrick Walls.

Single runs in the second and third helped push the advantage for the Hoggies to 4-0. Julian Duran scored on a two-out single by Walls in the second, while Ryan Guedry doubled with two outs and came home on a single by Clint Wallace.

UHV would get on the board in the fourth as Ryan Pearsall hit a 2-run home run off Dallas Ponder.

Taska, who finished 2-of-3 with a pair of walks, hit his second home run of the game leading off the fifth.

Kingsville added an unearned run in the seventh.

Ponder pitched four innings of 4-hit baseball allowing just the two runs, while striking out six before being pulled as part of the pitch count to earn the win. Matt Rhodes followed tossing 50 pitches in 3-1/3 innings. He fanned five while allowing three hits.

Ryan Benitez and Carl Huziar finished the game for Kingsville combining to allow 1 hit in the final 1-2/3 innings. They each posted a strikeout and did not allow a run.

The Hoggies had 11 hits in the game. Taska had two hits with three runs batted in, while Matt Perez, Guedry and Aguilar also had a pair of hits apiece.

In the second game of the twinbill, the Javelinas combined a solid pitching performance with timely hitting in the 6-0 victory. Five of Kingsville's runs crossed the plate with two outs.

After Walls led off the bottom of the first with a single, he scored on a double to right by Taksa. Justin Lee drove in Taska with a two-out single.

The Hoggies extended the lead to 4-0 in the third. With one away, Miles Holcomb reached on a fielder's choice and went to second as Lee walked. Wallace then lined a triple

In the fifth, Wallace drove in his third run of the day as Lee scored on a single.

Kingsville made it 6-0 when James Black was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded bring in Brady Bippert.

Meanwhile on the mound, five Hoggie pitchers combined to throw a 5-hit shutout. Denver Diefenbach went five innings scattering two hits.
