National Park Service Veteran Named Superintendent of National Seashore

Mark Spier, a 36-year veteran of the National Park Service, has been named the new superintendent of the Padre Island National Seashore, and will begin duties on Feb. 9.

Spier served as superintendent of the Palo Alto National Historical Park in Brownsville, Texas, as well as the interim superintendent of the Padre Island National Seashore in the summer of 2013. He will now oversee management of both the National Seashore and Palo Alto National Historical Park.

Spier also served as chief ranger at Big Bend National Park and the Rio Grande Wild and Scenic River in Texas, among several other assignments.
