Freer Teacher Arrested, Charged with Indecency with a Child

FREER (Kiii News) -

A fourth grade teacher at Norman Thomas Elementary in Freer was arrested Tuesday afternoon and charged with one count of indecency with a child.

Will Utley, a 45-year old resident of Benavides, was accompanied by his lawyer at an interview Tuesday afternoon at the Duval County Jail to address allegations of improper contact with present and former students at Norman Thomas Elementary. He was arrested following their interview.

After the allegations surfaced against Utley, an investigation was launched by the Freer Independent School District and he was removed from the classroom. Child Protective Services and the Freer Police Department also launched an investigation of their own.

A letter was sent home Monday notifying parents of the investigation and Utley's removal from class.

Freer police say that several possible victims have been interviewed and their cases are being investigated. At this time, they say it is not clear how many indictments will follow, but they expect there to be further indictments as more victims come forward.
