A Tour of the New Pax Christi Liturgical Retreat Center

Posted: Updated:
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

When driving on Highway 77 through Calallen, you may have noticed the new church that has recently gone up.

The chapel and facilities belong to the Pax Christi Sisters of Corpus Christi, and they gave 3News a first look at the inside of the chapel, which is still under construction.

The new Pax Christi Liturgical Retreat Center broke ground in 2010, but has been in the works for the past 36 years from the founding Sisters of the Order.

"This is really a very exciting moment to us," said Mother Mary Elva Reyes, superior general of Pax Christi Institute. "It is really the fulfillment of this vision that our foundress has, and we are really hoping to see that this comes to fruition after all these many years."

The chapel has detailed artwork of the night sky on the ceiling and inside the dome above the altar. The Sisters Order is hoping for the construction to be finished in March, and will open the retreat center to the public in May.

The center consists of dormitories, a reception hall and the chapel. They invite not only Catholic groups, but all groups and denominations.
