A snowmobiler was killed by an avalanche while riding with three companions in Utah on Sunday, officials said.

Clint Conover, from Ferron, Utah, was buried under six to eight feet of snow near a reservoir in the Manti-La Sal National Forest, according to the Sanpete Sheriff's Office.

The "four highly experienced back country snowmobilers" were carrying beacons, probes, shovels, and GPS equipment, according to authorities.

They were able to use Conover's GPS beacon to find him and perform CPR, but they were unsuccessful, the sheriff's office said.

Search and rescue teams received the call at 6.30 p.m. (8.30 p.m. ET) and rushed to the scene near the park's Huntington Reservoir.

Conover is survived by a wife and five children.

He was the second person to die in an avalanche in Utah over the weekend. Another slide near Tibble Fork Reservoir, 100 miles north of the Huntington Reservoir near Salt Lake City, pushed 21-year-old student Ashleigh Nicole Cox into a creek where she was submerged for 40 minutes, the Denver Post reported.
