Assistant City Attorney Terminated as Result of Internal Investigation

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

One result of the investigation into comments made by the newly hired city attorney was the termination of First Assistant City Attorney Alison Logan, City Manager Ron Olson announced Monday.

Logan was one of eight candidates vying for the job as city attorney.

Olson took the podium at around 11 a.m. at the CCPD headquarters to announce the results of the investigation, which was prompted by an anonymous letter detailing inappropriate comments allegedly made by City Attorney Roxann Cotroneo while greeting members of city staff.

Cotroneo admitted to making the comments to the city staff and other attorneys, but said they were taken out of context. Investigators said the comments were inappropriate for the informal setting, but did not violate city policies or guidelines; still, Cotroneo withdrew her acceptance to take the city attorney job.

A total of 43 City employees were contacted by investigators, who determined that only 35 attended the meeting where Cotroneo made the comments.

Along with announcing that Cotroneo has decided not to take the city attorney position, Olson addressed the unexpected termination of Logan.

"Not related to the allegations in the anonymous email, but revealed in the other findings of the investigation, which concerned management and structure of the law department, First Assistant City Attorney Alison Logan was terminated effective immediately," Olson said.

Olson added that the investigation showed that a review of the legal department was needed.

"The investigation revealed other findings which concern the management and structure of the law department," Olson said. "I have decided, as has been done in other departments in the City, to conduct a performance assessment of the law department."

While the City goes through the process of searching for a new city attorney, Lisa Aguilar will continue to serve as interim city attorney.
