SPID Traffic Backed Up as Loose Trailer Crashes Into Vehicle

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

Eastbound traffic on SPID was backed up for about an hour Friday after a trailer being hauled by a semitruck broke free and crashed into the rear of another vehicle.

It was just before 11 a.m. when the semitruck hauling a backhoe was heading east on SPID and lost its trailer. Officials said it looked as though the trailer sheered off from the truck and ran into the back of another vehicle.

The driver of that vehicle told authorities that she was out running errands when she saw the trailer coming toward her. Luckily, she was not injured in the accident, and there was not much damage to her vehicle.

The eastbound onramp from Everhart was closed, along with some of the eastbound lanes on SPID, as crews worked to remove the trailer from the freeway. The accident was cleared up by around noon.
