Interim City Marshal Under Investigation by Texas Rangers, CCPD

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

Interim City Marshal Michael De La Garza has been on paid administrative leave since Thursday pending an investigation by the Texas Rangers and city police.

Sources told 3News that there were claims that an employee at the Marshal's Office had made an arrest but was not a certified police officer.

Corpus Christi Police Chief Floyd Simpson said his investigators are looking into the complaint that was made of someone impersonating an officer. Texas Rangers are looking into an occupational code violation.

3News also learned that the other employee involved in the case is still on the job.

"It's being investigated, and if it proves to be correct, we'll take whatever action we need to to fix it," City Manager Ron Olson said. "As far as the municipal court goes, we've been struggling a couple of years now. The court has been upside down and inch by inch, we've been fixing it."

The city manager said there are only about six marshals, and that the work of the Marshal's Office will continue as usual.

No timeline has been set for the investigation to wrap up, but it appears after speaking with those involved that more information should come out soon. When a decision is reached, 3News will let you know.
