Family Displaced by Fire Looking to Community for Help

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

A family burned out of their home in the 600 block of Osage on Friday night are asking the public for help.

Relatives of the Garcia family were busy Thursday trying to clean up the mess at the home, which suffered major damage. The second floor was blackened and nearly everything was lost.

Downstairs, fire, smoke and water damage has caused tens of thousands of dollars worth of damage.

"There was no insurance. The top portion was burned and of course there was a lot of damage downstairs," fire victim Josephine Garcia said. "People have been asking how they can help, and the firefighters were fantastic, and right away they wrote a check for $500."

Everyone is living with another relative until the money for home repairs can be raised. If you would like to help, a benefit account has been set up under the name Josephine Garcia at any Wells Fargo Bank.
