Attorney General Gregg Abbott Campaigning in Corpus Christi

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

Texas Attorney General Gregg Abbott was in Corpus Christi Friday, at the Dos Comales Café downtown, continuing his campaign for governor of Texas.

The big topic of conversation recently has been Abbott's association with controversial rocker Ted Nugent, who was quoted on the campaign trail with Abbott calling President Barack Obama a "subhuman mongrel."

Nugent delivered a muted apology on a Dallas radio show on Friday, saying "I apologize for using the street-fight terminology of subhuman mongrel."

In Corpus Christi Friday, Abbott had this to say:

"I think he was right to come out and apologize. I think what he said was wrong, and certainly not the language I would use; and I think that now that he has apologized, I think it's time for us to move on and really focus on the issues that Texans like these really care about."

When asked if Nugent would continue being a part of Abbott's campaign, Abbott responded, "We don't have any plans on that. Our focus is on working on the issues we talked about today, and ensuring that we fight for better education, better roads, and better jobs in Texas."

Abbott is facing Miriam Martinez, Lisa Fritsch and Secede Kilgore in the Republican Primary on March 4.
