New Phone Scam Targeting Coastal Bend Parents

Posted: Updated:
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

A warning to Coastal Bend residents about the latest phone scam that is aimed towards parents. One mother tells 3 News how she was targeted.

"They told him that they had our son," said Christi Day. "That our son had hit somebody with his car in a gas station and injured his son and had chased our son down and had him in his apartment and that we needed to pay him money."

Christi Day says she realized the call was a scam. She does have a son and the vehicle the caller described, but she was with her son at the time. Police are reminding residents if you get a call that is sending a red flag: do not give any personal information over the phone, contact the loved one in question to ensure their safety, and whatever you do, do not meet the caller, then call the police right away.
