It was a big day for the Corpus Christi Police Department Friday, not just because of the breakthrough in the Cheryl Drive shooting case, but because some officers were awarded for their achievements in 2013.

"It's tough to be a wanted person in Corpus Christi," Police Chief Floyd Simpson said. "Secondly, these detectives, patrol officers, are second to none."

The awards ceremony was held at the American Bank Center. Officers were selected for their hard work and efforts for the year of 2013, and given awards for categories such as Life Saving and Officer of the Year.

The winners that 3News spoke with said it's all just part of their job.

Kiii News would like to congratulate all of our local police officers for their hard work.
