KINGSVILLE (Kiii News) -

Kingsville Independent School District board member Rudy Macareno was found guilty Thursday morning on one count of indecency with a child and one count of aggravated sexual assault.

Macareno was accused of having improper relations with a six-year old girl.

Deliberations began Tuesday evening. The jury reached a verdict on count one, but were deadlocked Wednesday and instructed by the judge to continue deliberations. They continued first thing Thursday morning and reached the verdict early in the morning.

The punishment phase in the trial began shortly after the jurors reached their verdict.

Meanwhile, 3News reached out to the Kingsville ISD to find out what they plan to do now that Macareno has been found guilty. Last year, when the allegations against Macareno first surfaced, he chose not to resign.

Kingsville ISD Superintendent Edward Blaha released a statement to the media, saying:

"According to our policy and state law, the Board of Trustees of the Kingsville Independent School District cannot remove a sitting trustee from the Board without court action. The Board of Trustees is committed to doing what is right for the students and parents of KISD. Upon the removal of Mr. Macareno from the Board, the Trustees will meet to determine the method for filling the vacant position. We ask for the public's patience as we follow the legal requirements that must take place."
