Two People Seriously Injured, One Arrested After Overnight Accident

Posted: Updated:
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

An overnight accident at the intersection of Staples and Lipes left two people in serious condition, and resulted in a short foot chase by police.

The accident happened around midnight. Two men in their 20s were pushing a stalled vehicle with a woman inside steering, and that's when investigators say 29-year old Adrian Garza sped by, striking the men and the vehicle.

Garza jumped out of the vehicle and started to run, but police were already in the area and chased him down. He was arrested and charged with intoxication assault.

Police had some advice for those who find themselves in a stalled or broken down vehicle.

"This is not the right time to be pushing a disabled vehicle," said Lt. Israel Soza of the Corpus Christi Police Department. "We should wait to get other assistance -- tow truck, tow straps -- try to find some help; and this also is a poorly lit area."

The woman inside the stalled vehicle suffered minor injuries.
