CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

People from all over the Coastal Bend gathered Friday at the Corpus Christi Cathedral to pay their respects and say goodbye to Albert "Beto" Garcia, one of the founders of the Texas Jazz Festival.

Garcia, a military veteran, passed away at home Sunday morning with his family by his side. He was 86 years old.

"He was a great man. A great spiritual leader for our family," Garcia's grandson Jon Perez said. "If I can be half the man he is, I will be pretty happy about that."

"So for 45 years I was part of his family, and I was very honored and deeply touched by his wisdom and his guidance," family member Ram Chavez said. "And my wife lost more than an uncle. She lost a father."
