KINGSVILLE (Kiii News) -

There was one empty seat at a special meeting of the Kingsville Independent School District Board Friday. There, they voted to accept the recent resignation of Rudy Macareno.

Last week, a Kleberg County jury found Macareno guilty of indecency with a child and aggravated sexual assault of a six-year old girl. He was sentenced to 16 years in prison and 10 years probation, to be served concurrently.

During the sentencing phase of his trial, Macareno drafted his formal resignation from the Kingsville ISD school board.

At Friday's meeting, the board also voted to approve a special election to fill the vacant seat left by Macareno. That election will be held May 10.

On Thursday, 3News confirmed that the Kingsville Police Department have launched an investigation into new sexual assault allegations against Macareno that surfaced on the day of his sentencing.
