Woman Breaks Lease Due to Snakes Found in Her Apartment

Posted: Updated:
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

You've heard of any problems or even roach problems in a home or apartment, but what about snake problems?

One local apartment dweller said she has had a recurring issue with snakes ever since February, when she moved into the Valhalla Apartments at Everhart and Snowgoose on the city's southside.

Amanda Grant, a single mother of two, said it was her worst fear come true. She said after constantly finding the snakes wiggling around inside her apartment, she wanted out of there.

The snakes are called blind worm snakes, which are relatively small in size. Nonetheless, finding them inside of her apartment ultimately forced Grant to break her lease and move out. She said she alerted the management and they did send out pest control, but it didn't take care of the problem. The snakes came back.

Grant said she killed 10 of them since moving in, and when she found one of the snakes near her four-year old daughter, she said she had enough.

"Didn't take care of the problem. Kept getting them. One was next to her head. Actually, that's what did it for me. We can't stay there," Grant said. "I informed them. They said they could have pest control out there today. They did have him out here. This was on Thursday, when they were next to her head. That's a whole weekend. I couldn't stay there."

Grant was forced to break her lease and moved out despite paying her rent until the end of the month. She simply said she wanted out of there and is not getting any of her money back.

Pest control was out at the apartment complex Monday.

Apartment management said the claim is not true, and they said pest control could not find any signs of snakes. They said the single mother just wanted out of her lease, but later, one of the women inside the office said they weren't snakes but worms that got inside her apartment because she left the door open. They wouldn't talk to 3News on camera and soon kicked camera crews off the property.

In the meantime, Grant said she will be staying with her mom, but can't get those images of the snakes out of her head.
