82-Year Old Woman Threatened During Early-Morning Home Invasion

Posted: Updated:
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

An elderly woman spoke out after her home was broken into as she was in bed asleep just after 6 a.m. Wednesday.

The woman was awakened when the burglar smashed through her patio window to get inside. The masked man then kicked in her bedroom door and began taking items, all while the 82-year old woman laid in her bed afraid for her life.

"'Don't move,' he said," the elderly woman said. "I'm thinking I better not move. I didn't want him to hit me."

Police said the man threatened her with a stick. Luckily, the elderly woman was not hurt, but the burglar ran from the home before officers arrived.

The elderly woman was clearly shaken by what happened. She showed 3News the concrete brick used to smash in the patio door, and then she led our crew back to her bedroom where the man ransacked the room. She said it's the second time in the last year her home has been broken into since her husband passed away, and what hurts most is the way the burglar treated her.

"It's more upsetting to me than what I lost," she said. "They can have it if they just come to the door and knock. I'd take it and give it to them, not to just do what they did. Sorry, I'm crying."

She said she is also heartbroken that among the items taken was something very close to her -- her mother's ring.

The elderly homeowner has since replaced the glass window that was  smashed at a cost of several hundred dollars. Her family and caretaker are keeping a close watch on her to ensure her safety.

Investigators said the suspect was wearing a ski mask at the time, but is described as a white male in his mid-20s or 30s. He stands about six-feet tall and was wearing a tan jacket and tan pants.

If you have any information that can help police, please call Crime Stoppers at 361-888-8477.
