Oil from Houston Spill Making its Way Into Matagorda Bay

ARANSAS PASS (Kiii News) -

Oil that was spilled into the Gulf of Mexico after two barges collided near Texas City this past weekend appeared in Matagorda Bay Thursday.

The barges collided on Saturday, March 22, spilling 168,000 gallons of thick oil into the Port of Houston near Galveston. Skimmers have been put in place to contain the oil, but they haven't been able to contain it all.

As of Thursday evening, efforts were underway to contain the spill, because according to a ranger from the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge, tar balls can be seen on Matagorda Island.
