Injured Tow Truck Operator Asks Drivers to Be More Cautious

Posted: Updated:
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

A tow truck operator who was badly injured while loading a disabled vehicle onto his truck last month is back at work, and now has a message that he would like everyone to hear.

It was March 27 when Reynaldo Reyes was called out to retrieve a vehicle on I-37 and Nueces Bay Boulevard that had a flat tire. He was outside of his truck, working to load the vehicle, when a driver who was not paying attention slammed into the back of the disabled vehicle.

"All I heard were the brakes and I knew it was coming," Reyes said. "The tire came, hit this and went up this way," Reyes said. "If I wouldn't have these rails, the car would have landed on me, but these rails saved me."

Debris flew off of the vehicle and hit Reyes in the head. Luckily, he was wearing a hardhat.

"I thought I was going to lose my life," he said.

Now that Reyes is back at Apollo Towing, he wants everyone to hear his message. So on Tuesday, Reyes spoke with Kiii News Reporter Anayeli Ruiz.

The car only hit his left shoulder and his arm, but he said it scares him that it could have been much worse.

"It still haunts me," Reyes said. "I just have to make them aware, they have to take it easy with us out there."

Reyes is hoping that drivers will be cautious when on the road.

"Just move over for us," Reyes said. "That's all I ask. That's all I can tell people. Just move over for anybody. Give us the courtesy."
