DUVAL COUNTY (Kiii News) -

U.S. Border Patrol agents say as many as 30 suspected illegal immigrants were in a truck that rolled over Wednesday morning at FM 1329 and County Road 236 in Duval County, about 30 miles south of San Diego.

According to the San Diego Police Department, who patrol that stretch of highway, one of their patrol cars spotted the truck as it passed at around 8:45 a.m. The officer turned around and did not give chase, but the driver of the truck panicked and drove off the road and into a 40-foot deep caliche pit, rolling several times.

Several of the suspected illegal immigrants reportedly fled the scene after the accident, and at least two were confirmed dead, found underneath the rolled truck. 10 more were hospitalized, four of which had to be transported via HALO Flight.

Three illegal immigrants were spotted walking along the road and were taken into custody. However, Border Patrol agents do not believe the driver of the truck was among them.

Border Patrol officials told 3News that earlier Wednesday morning, at around 5 a.m., 20 illegal immigrants were taken into custody in a separate bailout in Duval County; and Tuesday night in Brooks County, agents apprehended about 240 illegal immigrants in another bailout incident.
