Arrest Made in First Homicide of 2014 in Jim Wells County

JIM WELLS COUNTY (Kiii News) -

The Jim Wells County Sheriff's Office has made an arrest in connection with the county's first homicide of the year. A woman was killed at 11 p.m. Tuesday in the 1500 block of Elvira Street.

After hearing reports of shots fired investigators were dispatched to the home on Elvira Street, where they found 34-year old Erica Gonzalez with a gunshot wound to the head. She was transported to Christus Spohn Memorial Hospital via HALO flight where she was pronounced dead.

Police later arrested 24-year old Humberto Ynfante, Jr., in connection with the homicide investigation. Detectives say the victim and suspect were dating each other.

Ynfante is being held on a $700,000 bond.

    Two Edinburg Police Officers are recovering after they were shot Tuesday evening in La Joya as they attempted to serve a capital murder warrant. The suspect in the shooting, 29-year-old Joaquin Cibrian, was shot and killed following an exchange of gunfire with law enforcement. Cibrian was arrested in September of last year in Alice for allegedly using city equipment and materials to make extra cash. He was a city employee at the time.More >>
