CCPD Honors Young Hero Who Spoke to 911 to Save His Mom

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

The Corpus Christi Police Department and Metrocom honored a five-year old boy and his sister at their downtown headquarters Thursday morning for communicating with 911 operators to save their mother's life.

It was back in February when, twice in one week's time, five-year old Aiden picked up the phone as his mother, Jennifer Martinez, had a seizure and was attempting to call 911 for help. She couldn't continue talking on the phone, so Aiden got on the line and helped paramedics get to their home.

On both occasions, Aiden spoke with 911 operator Stephanie Lewis.

"She said she was home with her two kids, so I started yelling, 'Hey, kiddos,' and Aiden picked up the phone. So I started talking to him," Lewis said. "I asked him if his mommy was asleep. He said yes, and I was like oh; but he said her chest was still moving. He was able to tell me everything I needed to know. I asked him if he liked fire trucks and he said yes, and I said, 'One is coming to you. Can you open the door?'"

At the Thursday morning press conference, Aiden posted for pictures with his sister, Dakota, and their mother as police rolled out the red carpet for the little hero. Both Aiden and his sister received certificates of appreciation from the CCPD as 911 Metrocom Community Heroes.

"I think this is an example of a situation where, kind of seamlessly, flawlessly, everybody in the circle, it just worked perfectly," 911 Program Director Kathy Wiggins said. "It's just a great example of how this community pulls together and takes care of our citizens."

Of course, Stephanie Lewis was also recognized for her great work on the telephone -- something she loves doing. She has actually only been a Metrocom operator since December.

By Monday, the tropical wave will be over the warm Bay of Campeche waters. At that time, strengthening and more organization of this system looks likely.
