Man Who Shot Cop in Fredericksburg In Jail After Chase

Posted: Updated:
A suspect accused of shooting a Fredericksburg police officer is in custody in San Antonio after leading police on a chase spanning several counties.
It started in Fredericksburg around 1:30 a.m. Saturday.
According to the Fredericksburg Police Department, an officer was making a routine traffic stop when the 31-year-old Robert Adrian Rendon fired several shots at him from inside the car. The officer was hit twice, once in the stomach and once in the neck.
He was able to radio for help and was taken to Hill Country Memorial Hospital, but was then transported to San Antonio Military Medical Center.
Rendon fled the scene and was spotted a short time later by authorities driving erratically on Interstate 10 and firing more shots at police.
The pursuit went all the way to I-10 and Ackerman Road on the city's East Side where he lost control of his vehicle and crashed.
Rendon was then arrested by police and has been charged with three counts of attempted capital murder of a police officer.
Police found an assault rifle and a semi-automatic handgun inside the car.
Rendon is being held on $250,000 bond on each count.
He has a long criminal history including convictions on burglary, unlawfully carrying a weapon, drug possession and evading arrest.
The convictions occurred in San Angelo and Tom Green County where Rendon is from.
No SAPD officers were injured in the chase. The Fredericksburg officer who was initially shot is reportedly in stable condition.
