City Breaks Ground for Major Improvements to McArdle Road

Posted: Updated:
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) - The City broke ground at 9:30 a.m. Thursday for a construction project aimed at improving the stretch of McArdle Road between Whitaker Drive and Ennis Joslin by August of 2016.

The project, funded by the 2012 Bond, will include a three-lane roadway, bike lanes, five-foot sidewalks and upgraded utilities.

Corpus Christi Mayor Nelda Martinez and members of City Council were joined by Mary Encinia, whose daughter Kimberly was killed by a hit and run driver while walking downing McArdle between Rodd Field Road and Ennis Joslin back in February of 2012. She was on her way to a church function when the vehicle hit her and never stopped.

At the time of the accident, that stretch of McArdle did not have any sidewalks, and later that year, voters approved a road project to make the road safer for drivers and pedestrians.

For more information about the McArdle construction project, you can call the City's Engineering Services at 361-826-3500.
