Female Named Firefighter of the Year for the First Time in Beeville

BEEVILLE (Kiii News) - A female firefighter in Beeville made history Thursday. She was the first woman in Beeville ever to receive the honor of being named Firefighter of the Year.

"She's breaking new ground. I've been a firefighter for 65 years," Beeville Fire Chief Donald Morris said. "In fact, I got my 65-year pen this year, and in the past, we didn't have any female firefighters."

Morris said 30-year old Lindsay Morgan answered 234 calls last year. That placed her among the top 10 firefighters in that department, and her colleagues voted to give her the honor.

"Just in the time I've been in the department, we've had more females coming in, and I have two daughters and they're both looking at me, seeing that females can do these positions," Morgan said. "You know, it's not just daddies who go and do these jobs. You know, police work, firefighting, things like that. They see that mommies can do this too."

Morgan said she loves what she does and that it's easy to do well when you enjoy what you do.
