TAMUCC Nursing Students Get Training with New, Lifelike Simulator

Posted: Updated:
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) - Nursing students at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi received some hands-on training Friday using a new, lifelike HAL S3201 Simulator that sounds like a real patient, and responds to what is being done to him.

Unlike a rubber mannequin, Hal runs on an internal power source and connects to tablets and monitors. His eyes blink, his pupils change, his heart sounds change, and his vitals signs react to the treatments he is given.

On Friday, students checked Hal's vitals, breathing efforts, circulatory status and more. Using a monitor, they can see his things like his heart rate and oxygen stats.

Students will begin using the simulator later this semester, allowing them to practice treating patients using medical devices such as ventilators, electrocardiogram, oxygen saturation monitors, blood pressure cuffs, defibrillators or external cardiac pacemakers.

This hands-on experience will help prepare the students for work in intensive care scenarios.
